The following is a brief summary of this year's tournament rules. Please download the complete rules documentation for more detail.
Registration
- Registration and check-in opens at 8:30am and continues to 11pm the day of the tournament. You can also pre-register. It is highly recommended that you pre-register for this tournament.
- Team registration and check-in will close at 10:45 am. Individual registration and check-in will close at 12 pm. Boston Battle registration will close at 1pm.
- All fees for competition are payable in full the day of the competition. Any competitor who fails to pay their full registration fees will not be allowed to compete in the unpaid event.
- Registration fees are non-refundable.
Kata Competition
- All kata competition is co-ed.
- Kata should be appropriate for the division of the competition. Kata considered as a novice kata will be graded harder if presented in the advanced division.
- The same kata can be performed in all rounds of the competition.
- Competitors cannot compete in more than one division of kata competition (i.e. Individual Beginners and Individual Advanced.)
Kumite Competition
- There is required equipment for ALL kumite events - Mouthpiece, a groin protector for male competitors, and dipped foam hand pads. If a participant is missing any required equipment, they will NOT be allowed to compete, and all entrance fees will be forfeited.
- Any other equipment is optional but recommended - chest guard, head gear, foot pads.
- There will be no contact allowed to the head/face, neck, spine, kidneys, groin, or major joints (knee, hip, elbow, etc). Any such contact will result in warnings up to and including expulsion from tournament for excessive contact.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct - arguing with the judges, failing to follow instructions, etc - will result in warnings and possible expulsion from the tournament. This includes bystanders, coaches, and teammates.
For All Events:
- All divisions will be run in a single-elimination format.
- "Byes" are at the discretion of the tournament organizers
- A "bye" will be awarded if the opponent or team does not appear at the ring for check-in. In the event of an incomplete team, it will be up to the head judge if the incomplete team will be allowed to compete in the event.
- No changing of fighting order on a team or changes of bracketing once the event has started will be allowed.
- If a change is necessary due to injury, the consent of the head judge and the head table will be required.
- Changes of team roster will be allowed once an event has begun - but only between rounds.
- Competitors must present a final fighting order between each round to the head judge in the ring as well as the scoring table.
- No changes to the fighting order will be allowed once it has been submitted to the head judge for each round.
- All changes to the team rosters must be cleared at the head table before the event begins.
